 WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY

WRITING?

Wow, I have a few things going right now. A book of poetry called Ballads of a White Trash Stoic, as well as A White Trash Stoic's Guide to Parenting... On the fiction end I'm working on a graphic novel about the world's first nudist super hero, currently titled Jay Bird. At any given time I probably have half a dozen projects open or in some stage of development.

WHAT IS YOUR MUST-HAVE WRITING TOOL & WHY?

A digital voice recorder! I can talk into it while alone in the car, or just about anywhere else inspiration hits, and then slowly review it later on. It's a seriously valuable weapon in my writing arsenal these days.

IF YOU COULD INVENT ANYTHING YOU WANTED, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Imagine a thought to text device that could put the words inside your head on paper, even while you sleep! Never forget those awesome dream stories!

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR? IF YOU HAD 5 MINUTES WITH THEM, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

My favorite author is Ancient Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. His book, Meditations, is one of my all-time favorite books and if I had five minutes to meet with the author I would love to talk about how he dealt with the emotional ramifications or being responsible for a nation of people and the tool that took on his mental health and well-being. It's a fascinating story really.

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I have this dream of being healthy enough to hike down the Havasupai Falls in Arizona. It's a beautiful location with a sandy beach and a waterfall of crystal blue water, right in the middle of the desert. I'd love to camp out there and spend the day writing by the water wearing nothing but my heart on my sleeve.

IF YOU WERE TO WALK INTO A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE WHAT CAN YOU CONFIDENTLY SAY YOU DO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM?

I'm really great at creating uncomfortable silences.

WHAT IS ONE MOVIE YOU CAN PRACTICALLY QUOTE FROM START TO FINISH?

It would be easier to ask what movie I CAN'T QUOTE but some of the top ones would be any episode and the movie of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Footloose, Goonies, The Monster Squad, The Craft, and of course Interview With A Vampire.

DO YOU HAVE A WRITING PARTNER?

I bounce a lot of ideas off of my wife. We also write our "Inappropriate Children's Stories" together. She's very helpful with letting me know if certain jokes land, if rhyme schemes work, and what topics to choose for books.

WHAT IS THE MOST RANDOM THING YOU HAVE RESEARCHED FOR WRITING?

There are only 66 years between the first powered, controlled flight of the Wright Brothers in December 1903 and the first human lunar landing (Apollo 11) in July of 1969!

IF YOU HAD TO BE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERTED ISLAND, BUT ALL YOUR HUMAN NEEDS -- SUCH AS FOOD AND WATER -- WERE TAKEN CARE OF, WHAT TWO ITEMS WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU?

I would say that the first item would have to be my copy of Meditations, it's 114 years old and written on hand pressed French paper. It's one of my favorite possessions and I could read it 1000 times! The second item would be a boat, duh!
