WHAT IS YOUR MUST-HAVE WRITING TOOL & WHY?

Does wine count? It depends on my mood - I need my iPad if I want to write outside, my laptop and pink keyboard if I want to sit in my comfy office near the window, or my favorite dragon pen if I want to write in my notebook. So I guess my must have is ambience; I need to be outside, near the window in my office, or propped up on pillows in my bed in order to get the creative juices flowing.

IF YOU COULD INVENT ANYTHING YOU WANTED, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

An absolute vaccine for Covid19.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR? IF YOU HAD 5 MINUTES WITH THEM, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

I can't say I have a favorite author, but rather many favorite titles. My taste varies. I would like to talk to Elizabeth Gilbert after reading City of Girls, perhaps Jodi Piccoult after reading Leaving Time, and Erin Morgenstern after reading Night Circus (see, I can't choose!) They have such different tones; casual, supernatural, poetic. How do they come up with their plots? Is it easier for them to write something relatable, or something that has magic in it?

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Paris. I would sit at an outside table at a street-side cafe, order with with bread and cheese, and write. I did that last May and it was magical.

IF YOU WERE TO WALK INTO A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE WHAT CAN YOU CONFIDENTLY SAY YOU DO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM?

This one is tough, it's hard to give yourself that type of compliment. I suppose if it were a room full of small children I could say I write better than all of them, lol!

WHAT IS ONE MOVIE YOU CAN PRACTICALLY QUOTE FROM START TO FINISH?

The Little Mermaid. Twenty years ago when I lived in Italy, I didn't have actual tv stations (this is pre- iPhone days and there was no internet access in the old Italian homes). I did have a VCR (young people - this is how we used to play movies), along with the cassette The Little Mermaid and Mulan. I would alternate between watching them and reading books.

DO YOU HAVE A WRITING PARTNER?

I have my lovely wrinkle-faced bulldog, Chloe, who is always by my side. She is also one of the main protagonists in my children's books.

WHAT IS THE MOST RANDOM THING YOU HAVE RESEARCHED FOR WRITING?

A single stroke of lightening can heat the air around it to about 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit! I thought that was crazy.

IF YOU HAD TO BE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERTED ISLAND, BUT ALL YOUR HUMAN NEEDS -- SUCH AS FOOD AND WATER -- WERE TAKEN CARE OF, WHAT TWO ITEMS WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU?

If a power source weren't an issue, I'd say my iPad so I could have access to my book titles and be able to write. Otherwise I'd want a very large book to read and a notebook; some time reading and writing on a deserted island doesn't sound bad!
