WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY

WRITING?

What aren't I? Let's see: background info for a secret project, planning for an invite only anthology I'm very excited about, something for WPC, another draft of a fantasy project that is being published next year that I can't talk about (!!!!) and researching ANOTHER secret project I can't talk about! What an exciting interview for people reading so far!

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR? IF YOU HAD 5 MINUTES WITH THEM, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

Hmmm... This is tough. Robert Jordan is probably my favourite, despite him choosing many things I wouldn't do, though these things were written around 30 years ago and I suspect he'd do things differently himself. Perhaps that's what I'd ask him. Sadly, he died a while back so I'll never have the chance.

More modern, I like Joe Abercrombie very much. He's a big video gamer, so I'd probably talk to him about that. I'd be scared of asking him about writing, in case he brought up mine and I'd have to share it.

DO YOU HAVE A WRITING PARTNER?

In real life, I write in utter Solitude (yes, the capital is on purpose. If anyone reads this back in a few weeks, they'll see why.) Online I'm lucky enough to have discovered an amazing, supportive community and group of people that help each other when needed, and push me when I doubt myself. Especially a few people: you know who you are, and I'm always grateful.

WHAT IS YOUR MUST-HAVE WRITING TOOL & WHY?

Spotify! I write to music. The tap-tap-tap of the keyboard reverberates in my mind in an unpleasant way otherwise.

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Travel the world? That's so 2019! The Maldives, and I'd get a Pina Colada and lie on a float in the ocean.

WHAT IS THE MOST RANDOM THING YOU HAVE RESEARCHED FOR WRITING?

That showers weren't introduced in California homes until the late 1940s, and only became "normal" in the mid 1950s.

IF YOU COULD INVENT ANYTHING YOU WANTED, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Teleportation. Never be late for anything, more time sitting on my arse.

IF YOU WERE TO WALK INTO A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE WHAT CAN YOU CONFIDENTLY SAY YOU DO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM?

I could hold a Ted Talk on how to excel in self-doubt. I'm not sure anyone would watch (see what I did there?)

WHAT IS ONE MOVIE YOU CAN PRACTICALLY QUOTE FROM START TO FINISH?

American Psycho. All of the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars films. Superbad, strangely. But I do love that film.

IF YOU HAD TO BE SHIPWRECKED ON A DESERTED ISLAND, BUT ALL YOUR HUMAN NEEDS -- SUCH AS FOOD AND WATER -- WERE TAKEN CARE OF, WHAT TWO ITEMS WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU?

My record player with Abbey Road in the deck and the Wheel of Time book "Lord of Chaos."
